NEO TAMURA

Born in 2004 in Numazu, Shizuoka, NEO TAMURA is a Tokyo-based student photographer. Having spent twelve years in Singapore, he now works primarily with both digital and film photography, exploring light, memory, and the subtle emotions that exist within everyday life. His images often evoke a quiet tone, capturing moments of stillness and gentle transitions of time.

His work focuses on the overlooked scenes of daily life—moments where stillness and change coexist—and seeks to tell stories of continuity and transformation. TAMURA’s visual language is introspective, characterized by attention to fleeting light and the emotional resonance of natural illumination.

His notable series include Tokyo Lonely (2024), which examines solitude within the city, and Wandering Train (2024), a reflection on shifting emotions and landscapes through the lens of travel. His ongoing life project, Copernican Revolution, was partially exhibited in May 2025 at Place M in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Recently, TAMURA has been exploring the Japanese aesthetic concept of mono no araware—a sensibility toward the appearance of things—through new works that examine the boundary between the natural and the artificial, light and shadow. Working in both black-and-white and color for the first time in two years, he continues to explore the textures of light, the passage of time, and the emotions embedded within them.

He has participated in group exhibitions at Design Festa Gallery (Harajuku) and Setagaya Public Theatre (Sangenjaya), and has volunteered as a photographer for local cultural events including Sancha de Daidogei and the 10th Futako-Tamagawa Heart Art Street.
What appears in my photographs is not a frozen moment,
but fragments of time that continue to flow.
